A Simple Trunk Show
“This informal and light-hearted presentation features quilts from her "Simple" series of books and includes a handful of quilts from American Patchwork & Quilting magazine as well. Hear stories of her successes (and mistakes) as she was learning to quilt, including how she made the leap from self-taught novice quilter to published designer with just her fourth quilt. she has made since becoming a quilter in 1988.  Many have been
published in books and magazines and have been finalists and won

The Japanese embroidery technique of Sashiko is one of her favorites.

Regular Workshops

April 11, 2010-Workshop

Postponed to Sept. 12
Workshop – Flower Art – Barbara Olson

Playing with color, texture, depth and shading, students will manifest a small flower piece filled with light and energy. Choosing from one of Barbara's flower drawings eliminates the drafting and allows students to go right to designing with fabric.

June 13, 2010-Workshop

Workshop – Terry Waldron – The Scavenger Hunt Art Quilt

This class is truly a unique art experience! Students will receive a list of 5 things that they must FIND, not buy. That makes this quilt economical, and truly one-of-a-kind. Wait 'til you see the list! Besides the found objects, students will bring fabric that they LOVE and glue and fusing material, but they can do some sewing as well. Students will learn the MOST IMPORTANT principles of art in this one-day class, and leave this class seeing new possibilities in the over-looked items all around us. It's the ultimate recycling class!

July 11, 2010-Workshop

Workshop – Karen Kay Buckley – Folk Art Appliqué

Folk Art is an American tradition and this design reminds me of times gone by. The simple, elegant and flowing shapes create a wonderful quilt to hang on the wall or give to a loved one. The smoothness of the curves allows you to easily hand appliqué this 38” x 22-1/2” wall quilt. There are a few small areas which include reverse appliqué, just for a little more fun. Keep the Folk Art tradition alive as you stitch this wonderful little project.

August 8 , 2010-Workshop

Workshop – Karen Combs – 3-D Floating Blocks: Patchwork Illusions

Visual depth has fascinated artists for centuries, Karen has developed a quick and easy rotary technique that allows you to make quilts with a 3-D look.

Learn all the tricks and tips to creating 3-D patchwork blocks.  You will also learn how to use color to enhance the 3-D effect and how to use different settings to create amazing quilts of illusion!

Workshop – Flower Art – Barbara Olson

Playing with color, texture, depth and shading, students will manifest a small flower piece filled with light and energy. Choosing from one of Barbara's flower drawings eliminates the drafting and allows students to go right to designing with fabric.

October 10, 2010 -Workshop

Workshop – Cindy Needham – Whole Cloth Vintage Quilts

Another one-of-a-kind class that was created from my love of creating whole-cloth vintage linen quilts.  Almost everyone has a small stash of old embroidered tablecloths, dresser scarves, etc. and doesn't know what to do with them.  The morning session of class is a trunk show of sorts.  I bring my large collection of vintage linen quilts and teach students how to pick out designs, working with damaged or stained linens, special binding techniques, threads, finishing your backs, etc.  Students are encouraged to bring their stash of linens and the afternoon is spent designing and marking their pieces.

November 10, 2010-Workshop

Workshop - Melinda Bula – Cornflower - **This workshop will be on a Wednesday

Learn the basic for building a Fusible Flower quilt. The class works from the same  flower pattern. You will learn the steps of developing a flower art quilt by how color works to make a flower look real, how to use the fusible and lay out of design. I encourage creativity while assisting those who may feel timid about color and design. All skill levels can master these flowers and make them their own. The students in class will get 80% of their flower done in class. Renegade Thread Play is covered and demonstrated in class.

January 9, 2011-Workshop

Workshop - Sue Spargo – Wool Appliqué

Sue's approach is to guide rather than teach. She will share some of her accumulated experience, pass on techniques and tips. She gains the greatest satisfaction from helping people find and act on their own creative ideas.

People invariably take home a one-of-a-kind piece, many new techniques, and some new and wonderful friends.

Make unique flowers and leaves and add texture and dimension to each piece by layering fabrics. Learn to use many different stitches to add texture around the edges.
