Thread Painted Landscape with Nancy Prince

Workshop:
Nancy’s thread painting workshop offers a hands-on introduction to the art of free-motion machine embroidery, an accessible and creative way to embellish quilts and other fabric projects. In this workshop, participants will learn how to use their sewing machine as a "paintbrush," with the quilt top serving as the canvas and thread as the paint. With Nancy’s step-by-step approach, thread painting becomes an enjoyable process suitable for all skill levels—no special equipment or advanced skills are required.
Nancy teaches two methods of thread painting: the tulle sandwich method and the direct method. In both techniques, a water-soluble stabilizer is used as a guide for the design. The workshop covers how to set up the machine for straight or zigzag stitching, guiding participants through each step to ensure success. A printed photograph is provided to boost confidence and serve as a starting point for the project.
Nancy’s award-winning thread-painted landscapes have inspired many students who initially doubted their abilities. Her encouraging approach helps quilters see that with the right techniques, they too can create stunning thread-painted designs.
